              1.             George Bell, born in Ireland, died in NS.  George Bell came to Halifax in 1812 as a prisoner of War. The captain of the ship was an American named Philip Drew. The ship sailed from Belfast Ireland bound for New York. The British seized the ship, as war had been declared between Britain and the United States, after it had set sail. It is understood that George his wife (name unknown) and his son Thompson were on the ship. He may have died in 1854. A George Bell buried in Hillside Cemetery, Middle Musquodoboit, NS. Is dated 1854 marker # 168. also on this site is his wife  Sarah Bell d. May 18,1883 age 78. Two others on this same site are Zenas Bell d. Aug 17, 1900 age 56 and a William Green 1882-1908. (Zenas Green came from Broad Cove, Lunenburg Co, NS. His sister was married to Thomas Green who kept a hotel in the Valley at one time.) If this is our George Bell the Sarah Bell buried with him could not have been the mother of Thompson and siblings as she would have been too young. This burial site is next to Ellen M. Bell George’s Granddaughter, Thompson’s Daughter. George possibly related however unknown at this time.

He married Martha unknown, in Ireland. Possibly Martha was her first name. William had listed parents as George and Martha. On his second marriage record. I have found no burial; record of Martha Bell to date 2002.

He married (2) Jessie Watson, June 21,1893 in Brookfield, NS, born Oct 16,1869 in Upper Musquodoboit, NS, (daughter of Robert Watson and Emily Caroline Watson) died Mar 04,1957 in Musquodoboit, NS, buried in Pioneer Cemetery, Middle Musquodoboit, NS.  Jessie: Jessie Watson Bell was born in Upper Musquodoboit. She was the second wife of George Bell they had 12 children. She was a well-respected midwife and delivered over 300 babies in the Musquodoboit Area. She practiced midwifery into her 80's and died at age 87. Her son Ellis Bell was referred to in notes from Gram as adopted son of George Bell. Ellis was Jessie Watson’s son before marriage.  Jessie loved to knit; I can remember Grammy telling me she was so good at knitting she could knit in her sleep. Her knitting needles were worn thin from use. I think I remember Gram saying she was buried with her knitting needles. From Jessie's obituary she died at the home of her daughter Florence Archibald. Jessie saved her egg money and bought a settee, which consisted of a loveseat, an armchair, armless chair, a rocking chair and one other chair. Grammy had three pieces in her living room. Grammy gave me the three pieces she had. Aunt Flo had the rocking chair (I remember her rocking in it when we would visit her.) I am not sure but one of the others had the other chair. Aunt Ida said Jessie wasn’t a typical grandmother she was a busy lady with her midwifery.
